I chose the square version for the side of our bed, and the compact size fits the narrow space beside the wood cabinetry really well. When it is turned on, the alabaster softens the light without looking too bright or harsh. I like the balance between the solid square shade and the curved brass piece above it. The light comes through the alabaster softly, so it feels comfortable in the evening and does not create a harsh spot of light. It is a small fixture, but the shape gives it enough presence.
